Consumes files to generate Research, with the output quantity and type determined by the incoming file's format and quality, operating at a set files-per-second consumption ratio which be upgraded with Money.
Unlike Uploaders, Data Labs consume files at a specified rate measured in files per second as opposed to bits per second for the Uploader. It is vital to pick the correct file type for the situation.
Use the file type that can fill your Data Labs with at least 50% of your Data Lab's throughput capacity.
The node limit for Data Lab is 14. You acquire the first when unlocking Research. There are eight labs unlockable with Money and there are three Labs unlocked through Portal unlocks. The nine Labs that are unlocked through money reset every time the Portal is entered and must be unlocked if desired every run.
This node is upgradeable. There is currently no maximum level for Data Labs.
Until AGI is unlocked, unlocking and utilizing all Data Labs can yield more Research. However, due to the uncapped nature of the Data Labs combined with the Research Boost it is better to use a single Data Lab in end-game.
Do not forget to collect your research with a Collector, Auto-Collector, or Advanced Research so that it can be spent.

Quality impacts Research yields. Value modifiers have no effect on research yields. Refer to the table below for relevant research modifiers.
Positive Modifiers
| Modifier | Description |
|---|---|
| Refined | Increases research yield by 2x |
| Analyzed | Increases research speed by 2x |
| Enhanced | Increases quality and size by 2x |
| Decrypted | Increases quality by 4x |
Negative Modifiers
| Modifier | Description |
|---|---|
| Encrypted | Has 0 Quality. Unmodifiable |
| AI | Reduces quality by 10x, but increases value by 2,000,000x |
Avoid consuming encrypted and AI files for research use. Once files are decrypted they become excellent for research. AI generated files are generally avoided for research purposes.
